Gu!

A snow day encounter with a new friend led to an agreement over beers to sponsor my trip with free Gu products. The box came in today and it's an exercisers Christmas morning, complete with treats and joyous colors. Thanks again!

LOA issues

The latest update, hot off the press, is that HR will happily approve a Leave Of Absence of my vacation balance plus 30 days. This gives me a grand total of 7 weeks off. Either there was some miscommunication in my asking for 5 months or I have some interesting logistics to work out. Stay tuned...

The Real Americans

Last weekend Steph took me to see a one man play, "The Real Americans", starring Dan Hoyle. First of all, I've had a tall beer and almost typed "first ov all". Seems reasonable right? Second of all, the play was incredible, I highly recommend it but it sells out quick and only runs at The Marsh in SF until April 14th.

Hoyle portrays roughly a dozen different characters impeccably well which allows the audience to create an extremely vivid mental picture of the people he met. The show is funny, sometimes serious, and uber-insightful. Most of all it got me excited to meet so many new people. Hoyle does a great job of highlighting the "latte liberal bubble" that exists in the Bay Area and I'm excited to get out of it for an extended period. Don't get me wrong, I love the Bay, but the change will be great.

Which beer style is favored in Oregon? What's the breakfast favorite in South Dakota? What do Michigan-ites think about bike touring? What's the upstate New Yorker opinion about natural gas exploration? How prevalent are people conversing over pie in the South? How many boobs see the light of day from a balcony on an average New Orleans day?

My partner in crime is also getting a bike together to join me when riding through Yellowstone Nat'l Park, so that has been pretty exciting. It will be fantastic to share the experience of such a natural wonder with such a natural wonder, especially via biking and camping. There are definitely logistical issues like shipping a bike, flying in and out of regional airports, and timing in general, but I have no doubt it will work out. Some of the family is also planning on meeting up in Montana which will be a great reunion of familiar faces after the first month-ish.

Only a couple pieces of gear to get together, I'm almost set!
